Alameda, Calif. (June 30, 1998) - Geoworks Corporation (NASDAQ National Market System: GWRX), a leading provider of smart phone software solutions, today said that it will add an experienced telecommunications executive to its board of directors, Bernard (Bernie) A. Bianchino from Sprint PCS.
Bianchino, (49), is chief business development officer for Sprint PCS, a position he has held for three years. He is a member of Sprint PCS' senior executive team and responsible for wholesale strategic transactions and resale markets, and, affiliate and carrier relationships. Bianchino, who was executive vice president, general counsel and external affairs, for Qwest Communications, also spent eight years as vice president, law-general business, for Sprint Corporation and US Sprint.
"When I assumed the position of chief executive officer several weeks ago, I indicated that one of my principal objectives was to enhance our board with experienced industry executives," noted David Thatcher, president and chief executive officer of Geoworks.
"Clearly, we have done that with Bernie's appointment. He has held senior executive positions with several communications leaders and been in the forefront of the industry's development," he added.
